Inside each muffler are baffled that deflect sound waves and insulation material like fiberglass batting that absorbs some of these sounds as they pass through them. It does this through dampening, or lessening, the intensity of sound waves coming from an engine's exhaust pipe, making it much easier on other people's ears. An exhaust muffler is a sound-dampening device that works to reduce the amount of loud noise pollution caused by vehicles.
